Over the six year apprenticeship students will earn a BEng degree in Mechanical Engineering with Manufacturing. Gerard MacMichael, Head of the GMIT School of Engineering, says “These apprenticeship programmes provide companies with an excellent opportunity to upskill and nurture their own in-house engineering talent, and to attract high quality new hires. Our apprentices will be trained in both Electrical and Mechanical Engineering with a bias towards Traction and Rolling Stock (T&RS) Maintenance and Fault Finding. Exciting minds with our Apprenticeship programme - Engineering Our multi-skilled engineering apprenticeship programme is designed to create the technicians and engineers of the future. The program will instruct students in the installation and maintenance of mechanical machinery and systems as well as workplace safety. Our higher apprenticeships take between two and four years to complete and combine studying with hands-on training while you gain an NVQ Level 4 and a relevant HNC. There are many roles that a mechanical or electrical engineer might consider, all with different requirements and qualifications. Our new Degree Apprenticeship programme combines the very best of our Graduate Scheme, which has received repeated accolades from the ‘Institute of Mechanical Engineering’ (IMechE), and our Higher Apprenticeship programme. This course will develop the learner’s mechanical engineering expertise and professional skills across a broad curriculum with modules including thermofluid mechanics & heat transfer, mechanical engineering design and manufacturing strategy. As an engineering apprentice, you will have the opportunity to develop mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control & automation skills. Students completing the program after an estimated 605 hours or about three years will enter the field as a journeyman and earn and industry-standard certification issued by the National Center for Construction Education and Research. This course maps to the Product Design and Development Engineer apprenticeship standard. At the end of your apprenticeship, you will have achieved a Nationally Recognised Vocational Qualification at Level 3 in Electrical & Mechanical Engineering, together with the Standards in T&RS Service Technicians Award. An apprenticeship that equips you to become a multi skilled maintenance engineer; A varied programme that involves, electrical, mechanical and maintenance engineering; Learning to fault find and fix mechanical and electrical components of the plant equipment and making and suggesting improvements Becoming a mechanical or electrical engineering apprentice allows you to ‘earn and learn’ while you discover where your interests lie. This level 3 programme will take three and a half years to complete over which time, they will benefit from a variety of learning methods. The mechanical apprenticeship discipline will provide apprentices with the skills and theoretical understanding which will allow them to become capable craft technicians on power generation sites. List of our higher apprenticeships is as follows: - Mechanical Engineering - Electrical / Electronic Engineering - Technical Sales - IT - Data Analyst - Manufacturing - Rail Engineering Why You Should Consider an Engineering Apprenticeship.
